Dental Crowns

What is a dental crown?

A crown is a protective cap used to restore a tooth that is cracked, broken, or badly decayed. Crowns are also placed on top of a dental implant to replace a missing tooth. Dental crowns are made out of ceramic, porcelain, or gold.

How is a crown placed?

First, we prepare the tooth by removing decay and reducing the tooth so that there is room for a crown. This procedure leaves us with 1/2 to 2/3 of the original tooth size remaining. We then make an impression of your tooth and our assistant fits a custom, temporary crown. Around two weeks later, our master lab technician will return your crown to our office. During your appointment, we will remove the temporary crown, clean your tooth, and place your crown making sure it meets our exacting specifications.

Is the expense of a dental crown worth it?

It’s no secret, crowns can be expensive. Our goal is to restore form, function, and aesthetics to a tooth that is too badly compromised to be fixed by a filling. Included in the cost of a crown are two dental visits; the use of industry-leading, premium dental materials; the fabrication of your crown using one of three leading laboratories who invest significant amounts of time and resources into producing some of the finest dental restorations; and our team’s experience providing high-quality standard of care.
