Patient care is still top priority, but it’s done in a way that is more conscious of the waste that is put out.
But why go green? And is it really that important that a dental practice is green?
Yes, it is. Many practices using older or obsolete equipment and techniques can be very harmful to the environment in the waste they produce or their lack of water conservation. For example, the total mercury wasted annually by dental offices that don’t follow best practices is about 3.7 tons. And those that still use traditional imaging (as opposed to digital) waste about 4.8 million lead foils a year. Imagine the amount of waste that ends up in our landfills. Our office utilizes dry vacuum systems, saving hundreds of gallons of water per week versus traditional wet vacuums which require a constant circulation of water to create suction.
